On November 5 the first of four performances of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre was held on the main stage of South Korea. In the Seoul Art Center ovation didn`t cease after the end of the opera "Carmen" by Bizet, staged by Aleksey Stepanyuk and Igor Grinevich. The conductor was Evgeniy Volynsky.
Ruslan Efremov, director of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre: "We
have a good partner in Korea - TV Company CBS, so all the complications of
organization of a large project can easily be overcome. This is an important
project for the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. We discovered Korea for
the theatre long time ago, but in the capital, Seoul, we have not shown opera
yet. Opera "Carmen" has been performed in our theater for eight years and it is
still popular with novosiberians, and very popular, as we may see, outside the
country.
Today in Korea the first performance of "Carmen" by Novosibirsk Opera and
Ballet Theatre was held. Stage Director Aleksey Stepanyuk changed many scenes,
he revived the play, made it more passionate, raised the level of acting skills,
and later Novosiberians will see new versions of many mise-en-scènes of the
performance in the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre.
Veronika Dzhioeva, performer of Micaëla `s party: "I’ve worked with Aleksey
Stepanyuk for the first time, and it was great, I wanted for a long time long to
work with him. I'm glad that he is pleased with my performance as Micaëla. I
worked several times in Korea since 2005 and I like this country, I like Korean
cuisine and I`m always happy to come here. I also sang in this theatre – the
astonishing hall, great acoustics. I would like us to come here more often.
Irina Shishkova, performer of Carmen party: "This is my first tour with the
Novosibirsk Theatre, I'm glad that I was in this project, especially glad that
the stage director of this performance went with us. This is a useful experience
for me - Aleksey Stepanyuk is a true artist, the stage director with a God-given
talent. It seems that he senses what is happening, how and what should happen.
All roles, all the scenes under his supervision are built organically - the way
you would do it in life, if you were that character. And I began to understand
Carmen better.
Sergei Krupko, Head of International Relations Department: "The idea of these
performances arose two years ago, the contract was signed, and the dates were
set, but in the theater where we had to act - and it is the main theatre area of
Seoul, a fire occurred right during the play. The scene burned down, fire
destroyed the stage equipment, but the Government of the Republic of Korea
needed only a year to undertake expensive and full repair. After repair, we
returned to the draft of the tour. And today the project became a reality, a
"live" performance for viewers in South Korea. "
